Domestic Queen

STORY TIME!

"Escapades of the Woman and Her Pan, Part II"

I made myself a home-cooked meal tonight! It all started form a meager little potato, a container of chopped onions (do you KNOW how much one onion is???? it's ridiculous, really), a container of chili flavoring, two eggs, some chicken/rice/noodle mix, the Pan, and one pot. Oh, and some pinched or yoinked olive oil (pinch and yoink don't quite mean steal).

I washed and chopped that potato like a pro, then put oil, onions, chili spices, and potato into the Pan and turned the burner up. Then I sat back to read about good ole Toshie before I boiled up the water for the chicken/rice/noddle stuff (that's appropriate, btw...and Oriental dish and an Oriental book; so it was a THEMED dinner too! man I'm good). I had been reading a while when Jerkiar popped in. I was excited to see her since she is an SA this year and didn't play volleyball. We talked awhile, she made her ubiquitous Crystal Light, and then she was on her way. I had stirred the potato mixture several times by now to make sure it cooked evenly. Then I discovered I had the wrong burner on. Sigh. Start all over.

I cranked up the RIGHT burner this time and settled in to read again before cooking my Oriental dish. I was interrupted from Toshie getting her first washing machine by the sound of fierce crackling and popping that seemed to originate from...you guessed it, the RIGHT burner. I hastened to turn it down a bit. A lot, that is. Well, it was then that I noticed the potatoes had been cooking a good half hour by now (more if you count the heatless saturation in oil that occurred before I figured out the burner trick); so I started boiling the water for the rice/chicken/noodle mix.

After that boiled, I put in the mix and waited a couple of minutes before adding the two eggs to the potato mixture. Those were some funny looking eggs. Of course, I didn't have milk and I cracked them right into the pan, but still...

The potato dish was done! Fine (I think that's Italian or Greek or something for "finished")! I removed the rice dish from its burner (don't worry, I turned them all off too) and let it cool so it would "thicken", as promised by the handy instructions on the side of the bag. I couldn't wait any longer, so I started eating the potatoes. Despite the fact that my onions had evaporated somewhere between saturation and over-cooking, it tasted great! Of course, that may have been because of the nine hour wait between meals and the yoinked salt I discovered.

Why isn't the rice thickening, you say? Well, perhaps because I guesstimated on the "one cup and three quarters" water measurement (you know, turn on the faucet and turn it off when it feels good). Anywho, I used the lid as a strainer and rid myself of extra juice. By then, however, I had finished off the entire potato dish and an orange (ok, not in my original cast of characters, but he really was there all along), so I just had a small serving of that and put the rest in a container for later.

Phew! That was a long story. But lemme just say, food tastes better after you yourself have cooked it. Try it sometime. And be willing to laugh at yourself. Peace out, folks!

So we DO have a weight-trainer, apparently! The volleyball team met with him today in the SRC. (Sports and Recreation Center, y'all) We now have a weight thingie we have to do three times per week. It's pretty fun. We are going to add things later, but for now it's pretty basic.

The only problem is TIME. Grrr.

I am trying to get next quarter's schedule all worked out, and it is not going so smoothly. The Intro to Aerospace class that I have been trying to get into is already full (in fact, they increased the cap so that more students could get in) and the sophomore on-line registration hasn't even started yet! My other options are humanities or other aerospace concentration classes. Well, the classes I already have lined up do not fit well with the other class I need to take. I think I will end up taking a humanity I don't want to take because I can't get into Tech Comm early. Tech Comm is a junior-level class that I could get done with early and then only have ONE more humanity to take...but all the classes are full already. So I am probably taking Intro to Non-Fiction, which I would rather not do, partly because it might have papers (gag) and partly because it is so late in the day.

So far I have gotten away with humanities that don't require much in the way of papers. We'll see if my luck holds out.

"Lazy" Wayne

You have to picture this guy. He is definitely over 60, probably 70 or more years old. He is always in a collared shirt and tie and dress pants and stands kind of hunched over. He has a constant half-frown half smirk (is that enough halves, Betsey??) on his face, and he moves soooo slowly and precisely, just how he talks. Which is what makes what he says so outrageous. He obviously has thought it over and just how to say it.

He is avoiding giving us a lecture (he claimed it was so boring that his previous class was audibly sighing by the time he finished...and two heads hit the table-top as they were falling asleep), so he started to tell us a story.

He has the "intro" perfected. Just like Kramer popping into a room. Just perfect. "I'm really tired. You see, yesterday was the day I increase my weights." Completely straight-faced. I still have NO idea if this 70+-year-old man actually does work out and lift weights.

Anywho, the story continues. "They have these letters on the weights and for some reason I went from "H" to "J". I forgot about "I" and I wore myself out. An illiterate person could kill themselves on those things."

HAHAHA!! I LOVE that man! He is going to teach Intro to Aerospace Engineering next quarter! Soooo excited about that!

Shoulda Been a Cowboy!

Well, that's a song, but I have got some of the basics down: a love for Carhartt, country music, cowboy boots, and shooting things. That's right, folks, I have officially shot my first weapons (live and loaded!). I shot some kind of rifle (2 kinds, actually) and a couple of handguns, all with .22 ammo (heh, whatever that means!). Basically, they weren't very powerful guns, but they were guns just the same!

There was an open shoot at the Rose shooting range...SO fun!! Kyle has fired such things before, so I went down with him. There were little target papers and I managed to keep one of mine and pick up a few shell casings before we left. My throat was caked in gun smoke, and I had to wear earplugs the whole time; it was SO COOL! I just shake a lot and those rifles are HEAVY. I don't have the best aim in the world, but I liked it a lot, so I will probably go next Monday too.

So...last night, I went to bed at around 12, seeing as I had an 8 AM lab the next day (today). I set two alarms, pretty sure that I would sleep right through. Later, I woke suddenly and stared at the clock, sure it was wrong when it said 1 something. I realized KT had made some kind of noise, which is what made me wake up, and she assured me that it really was 1 AM and that I wasn't late for my class. Then she went to bed (that is EARLY for my roomie). The next thing I knew, something LOUD and obnoxious was ringing in my ears. I couldn't figure out what was going on and would probably have stayed in bed if my roomie hadn't asked, "Isn't that the fire alarm?" So I jumped (ok, rolled or slumped might be a better word) out of bed and saw the clock: 2 something. Grrrr. Who sets off the fire alarm at TWO IN THE MORNING??? So KT and I threw on robes and went out in our bare feet with herds of other sleepy people. It wasn't a drill. Someone had set it off while burning popcorn in the kitchen; and they had run off and left their burning mess in the kitchen without cleaning it up or opening a window. This is why my lovely night of sleep was ruined. Stupid people.

Moral of the story: two alarms and two false alarms later, I woke up fifteen minutes into my first hour lab. Haha, I am bad at this morning thing. But luckily it was a three hour lab and I walked in while our professor was still blabbing about nothing, so I didn't miss a thing.

Have a great day!

I missed his birthday on my blog by about 11 minutes. :( Thought it was still the eighth. My bad.
AND IT'S MY DAD'S BIRTHDAY TODAY!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!!!

Look! Something To Say!

I used my quesadilla maker for the first time today! My roomie and my suitmate each had one too! Ok, so my roomie had two...they were sooo good! We made them with refried beans, onions, cheddar cheese, and chili seasoning. Mmmm. I have eggs and onions in my fridge for the next breakfast I wanna make. In my pan. :D

Sooo...it was an experience! I don't have much counter space, and I didn't want to go down to the kitchen...and I had to improvise with some utensils. But it was great! I felt so accomplished! I made a meal...and a good one! Cutting the onion was interesting. No, I didn't cry; it didn't even burn my eyes. But, I had to cut on a paper plate and I had to go to the kitchen because the room's counter had the quesadilla maker on it...and I started with my knife, but it being plastic-ee, that didn't work out too well. So I found one in the drawer. And promptly began to use it: upside down. I figured that out (mutter mutter, why won't this CUT?!) after I pressed down on the blade with my finger. No cuts, no blood, no danger. I just figgered out it was sharper on the other side. Went MUCH smoother after that.

So all in all, it was a successful endeavor. And now, I am going to bed. (:() (it's a monkey, see?)

I've Got Nothing To Say

I realized belatedly as I began to write this post. Heh heh. What to say?

I am realizing more and more that the more I try to do, the more that lies before me. Grrr. Getting ahead is a challenge, that's for sure. I guess it's about prioritizing, which is not my strong point.

Sooo...rule #1 for prioritizing: quit lollygagging and get yourself in gear! Therefore, I am going to GO and get 'r done, rather than write a ridiculously long blog about nothing in particular.

Don't you feel a sense of accomplishmentg for having taken a few moments out of your day to read this nowhere post? Good good.

Yay!

Got a 95 on my DEII test as well!

I'd be pretty happy if that continued to be my average test score this quarter (LOL). See, the problem with starting out this high is that it is so easy to be disappointed. That's why failing the first test isn't all bad. Pretty much all you can do is go UP. Whereas I have the potential to fall way, way down. Man, it's rough I tell you. There's too much pressure up here at the top.

HAHAHA, man, I made it sound as if I was a superstar or something. Yeah, "it's lonely up here at the top" or some such nonsense. But don't worry, I always have Msys homework to keep me humble. Such as the three problems waiting for me in the study room next door. The three problems that I have no, none, zippo idea how to do. I think I will take a break and do my DE homework instead. :)

Reading for Japanese Society maaay or may not get done. Night, folks!

Oh and look at these beautiful faces...who is that hottie with the red hair??? Luv ya, good buddy!

It's Easy Enough...

To miss an exit. When you're me, anyways. I was watching the mile markers and signs and the exit was about 2 miles away. So I zoned out. Aaaand...45 minutes later, I was very upset with myself. You see?

School started up again without much preamble. Just loads of homework, as if we had never had a break and weren't trying to get back in the swing of things again. OH! And I got a 95 on my Fluids exam. Aaaagh, that's SO incredible! I can't belive it! I thought for sure I did worse, but I am excited that this quarter has started out so well grade-wise. But I have TONS of homework tonight, so I might just change my tune later in the day. Just warning you.

Jaymi darling, I'm too lazy to go all the way to your site to write this and I don't feel like sending an email either. Could you send me the picture of you and me at New Year's?? Just email it when you have the time. Heh heh, if you aren't feeling lazy like me. Thanks!

Happy New Year!!

Good morning, everyone! Well, I am back in the Haute, after a long and arduous journey back. You see, I missed my exit for the first time ever, and the next exit was about eight miles away. Then, once I finally exited, I thought I could just take that road across to 41 just as I would have if I had exited at 114. Well, lemme tell you, that didn't work out. I wasted about 45 minutes finding that out and heading back to the highway, where I backtracked. Yuck.

Well, I finally made it (later than I expected), and I am all unpacked and the room is SO neat! I am proud of us. KT got one of those digital cameras with the picture printer thingie, and it's pretty cool. But I have the coolest gifts. ;) I carried clothes back in my new orange Under Armour bag; I am wearing my new Victoria's Secret body spray and my new olive jacket (wore the khaki one yesterday); I wore my new gold earrings yesterday; my Napster card is sitting here waiting for me to use it; my mittens I left at home WHOOPS (Mom, can you find those? I will get them ASAP, maybe when LanL move); my quesadilla maker is downstairs squattin' till Saturday or Sunday (tortillas are in the fridge!); my new Grace short is hanging in my wardrobe along withmy new hand stuff (waiting for a lazy afternoon). I got other stuff too, but that's a bunch of it. Ain't my family great??

I gotta go get the day going, but you all would be proud to know that I got up at 10 after 7 today after going to bed at 1. AND I didn't even have to (forgot it was a Wednesday, hehe). I guess I'll take a nap today (if the opportunity presents itself). Have a good day, all!
