It's the Big One....

Yup, third and final con apps test tomorrow. Until the final, that is. Yikes. This is the big one, folks. I gotsta do good on this. So I shall be studying my lil hind end off tonight. Gaah.

On a brighter note, Lit of War is going to see Jarhead sometime...in theaters! Free! I love that class. Soooo much. We are working on "The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel" now. Wow, what a piece of work. It is a play with Pavlo as the main character. He is absolutely crazy, I tell you. It is a hilarious play...I laughed out loud several times while reading it. But it also has lots of profanity, so the reading out loud in class gets kind of interesting sometimes. The drill sergeant is probably the funniest character, although Kress is right up there. Anyways, if you want an interesting read, and a unique one, that would be one. The play itself I am sure is brilliant, but I am not sure I want to see some of the scenes acted out.

This week includes the con apps test, a captain's meeting for IM bball, and a tournament this weekend for which we have to leave at 2:30 on Thursday. That means zero classes for me on Friday...which could be a good or bad thing. BAD because I will be missing TWO con apps classes again (it starts at 2:30, so I will miss it Thursday and Friday); yet good because YAY I don't have to worry about class. Just gotta get my work done ahead of time.

Alrighty, time to finish the ole Esys homework and study like crazy for con apps.

In Ohio

Back on Saturday night (laaaate).

Here's the ole update.

I raked leaves today! It was awesome to be out in the fall weather and OFF campus! It was a SWE thing (Society of Women Engineers), and I am technically not in SWE, but they needed more girls to work it and, hey, I have the qualifications, so I offered. Jess and Katie Wolber and I all went...it was long but fun! We might be going back for finals week. We earned money for SWE, and maybe I'll figure out how to join SWE so that I can see how they spend said money.

We had another 6 AM practice today. Poopy farts. I hate morning practices! It went alright, I guess, but I forgot to put in my contacts and had to play in glasses. It's not easy to kill a ball when you're doing your full approach and your vision is shaking as your glasses bounce up and down. Haha. The joys of near-sightedness.

I might get my Esys exam back tomorrow! Yay, because I think I did really well.

I sat down and did some homework today (gasp) and got one of the con apps problems done ALL BY MYSELF. Round of applause. Now I only have three more to do. Due Friday. Along with my Lit of War paper.

We have a tourney this weekend and next weekend, so I will miss the performance of the play Jerikar is in (sad!!). I really like live theater, and it is fun to see people I know in it as well. Darn it, I'll miss all of the stinkin' performances!

Final review week, there is a war film festival that Jess and I will be going to, hosted by Dr. Williams, a super cool professor o' mine. It will be loads of fun and I am excited about it!

Oh, shocker, I actually did DE homework today! I am so on top of things today.

Ate a bar of chocolate by myself today. It was huge and creamy and so worth it. Oh man.

My roomie was sick today :( I had to go out and buy her some stomach stuff. Hope she feels better soon. Plus I REALLY don't want to be sick. Pleeeease!!! Alrighty, I am going to bed so I can get up early and be productive cuz I need to be.

It's All About Me

Well if you didn't want to hear about me, why did you come to my blog?????

Go here to see the star of the show!

Surprise!!

Guess who came down to see me today?? GR folks! Dan and Emily drove down to the Rumley house last night and then finished the drive to Depauw this morning to see one of my games! And we won! Just for them...

I was soooo excited and happy to see them there. They got to see me play lots and get some kills; not quite like the game Jaymi had to sit through...did you know Jaymi came to see me on Thursday? So Dan and Emily left after the first game...good thing too, cuz we lost soundly in that one.

So Jaymi and I had a GREAT time here Thursday night through Friday night. It was great to catch up on things with her and talk for hours and play pool...heh heh, or at least give it our best effort. It was like PCS all over again, since we managed to drag Kyle into our activities as well. Do your homework, kid!

I am not the night owl I was in high school and freshman year, lemme tell you. I go to bed by midnight almost every night if I can (I get up early, dang it). So Thursday night (up till 2) about killed me, haha! Someday I will get to sleep in...

See y'all later!

Bunyons

"Buns and onions, it's kind of appetizing if you don't think too hard." - Sookie

Hahahaha, gotta love Sookie. There were lots of outrageous lines in last night's episode.

And who knew you spelled it "Sookie"??? I always thought it was Sukie or something like that. Whoops.

I'm Sorry I Can't Be Perfect

"Well you need a blue sky holiday
The point is they laugh at what you say..."

"You had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day..."

"Sometimes the system goes on the blink
And the whole thing turns out wrong..."

"So where is the passion when you need it the most
Oh you and I
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost..."

Pieces of "Had a Bad Day" by Daniel Powter.

Gaah! Where's that good day when I need it? Too many bad ones in a row. Lots of work tonight.

If you see the other half of my heart walking around out there, could you send him my way?

Guess Who Had a 6 AM Practice Today?

That's right. Me. Wish I could say otherwise. Wooey, that one was early. And it went till 7:30 and I have an 8 o'clock class. I was flying to get showered in time. I even drove the van to the SRC so I could get back more quickly. I had KT drop me off and take the van back to its parking spot. I felt like a schoolkid being dropped off at the elementary wing in the minivan...except that I've never had that experience before, hehe. I don't think. Well, not in high school or elementary that is. Perhaps in K4. Whatever.

So I have lots on my plate. In 7 minutes, I have to leave to get in to the Esys lab room to practice for my lab practical tomorrow. That is where each lab partner goes in by him/herself and does an abbreviated lab alone to see if he/she knows what he/she is doing. So let's hope I know what I'm doing...yikes!

I am now a part of the HSS Student Advisory Board. We have 3 meetings during the year to discuss changes or improvements in the humanities at Rose; I was apparently highly recommended by Dr. Williams, which is cool since I think she is amazing! She is my Lit of War prof this quarter, and I am hoping to get her for Tech Comm my junior year.

Tonight after the lab preparations, I will get dinner and then go shopping in the C-Store. Junk food time! I shopped in the bookstore earlier today and decided I really want to splurge in some stuff, but I kinda am not sure about the resources to do so. I would love to do all of my Christmas shopping there, but hahaha, would all of my family really want everything with a big Rose-Hulman stamped on it?? Plus it's super-duper expensive. Ok, off to lab practical practice it up! Ooo, say that eight hundred times fast!

Adios!

The End of Fall Break

That's so sad. I had a great break! And now it's all over...

I got to go home for about a day and some odd hours! Woohoo! I saw the fam, even Buzz and Emily. We celebrated Hyo-Sun's birthday on Thursday (and I got lots of home cookin' in me - grin). I went out with Jaymi and Kyle for a while that night as well...haha, guys, it was a blast as always! We really know how to party. Kmart SO wasn't ready for us!

On Friday, surprise surprise, Emily and I were recruited to play in an alumni/faculty soccer game against the PCS varsity team. We ended up tying it 1-1; but the faculty side should have creamed the varsity team. We were so much better!

Then I drove back to Rose on Friday night and the next morning (bright and early) left for Kentucky with my teammates. Yeah, folks, I was up at six a.m. That's ridiculous. But we had a lovely breakfast at Denny's, so that kinda sorta made up for it.

We proceeded to lose every game that weekend. Aaaarrrghhh! But luckily, that is not all that I will remember from the weekend. I personally set a career high and led the team in kills in our first match (10 kills); then I played the best games of my career for the rest of the weekend. We just never have all of our guns firing at once. It's like only one of us can have a good game at a time. Grrrrr!

We have tomorrow off, and I will be doing lots of homework then, but the break will be glorious. I might find out about my con apps test tomorrow! *cross fingers*

Alrighty, I'm off to bed (yeah, at 8:30) so I can get up SUPER early tomorrow - 5ish if I'm motivated - and get some DE done. Adios, all!

Second Interview Over!

Fall break is tomorrow! Weesa goin' hooooome!

Yeah, so Larry Lynch, the guy who interviewed me, kept saying how well the first interview went with Patterson and how well I was answering questions....so keep you fingers crossed! Maybe I'll have a job this summer in good ole Peoria!

Alrighty, take care everybody!

One Interview Down...

One to go! Phone interview #1 done and over forEVER!!!!

I think I did well, besides some super cheesy comments that I knew I would somehow say - dang phones - so all in all, WOOHOO!!! I find out in a month (and after tomorrow's interview) what they decided.

Time to take a con apps test. Booooo! I'm nervous but still on an adrenaline high from the interview, so bring it con apps! Yeah, just so you know, a phone interview is the most natural knock-out high you can get. Woo, I'm still spinning! And shaking. Aaahh, need to go burn off some energy! Guess that's what the test is for....

Talk to you fine folks later!

New Personal Record!

I got my highest single match kill record against Rhodes...7 kills! I'm working my way up there...next goal: double digits.

Haha, in high school, that would have been nothing. But I'm excited about it now...against those big, bad blockers! And those durn liberos! Yay!

So I am procrastinating AGAIN...gotta go study con apps. I have a test tomorrow. And a phone interview - gulp - on Wednesday. And another interview some other time that I do not know of yet. Oh boy. I get the shakes just thinking about it.

Alright, I'm off. I'll go study now. Sigh.

We're going to Milwaukee On the Train!!

Texas, that is. By airplane, that is. The Boys Next Door is a grrrreat movie!!

So I have to turn in my transcript to Cat and set up my phone interview for Wednesday of next week. After that is a follow-up interview if they liked me the first time. Not a phone interview. And I want a summer internship, not a spring or fall one, so I am competing against a lot of people. I am excited and nervous and overwhelmed because I have too much to do tomorrow!

I should go pack and finish laundry. I got my paper written for tomorrow and the con apps homework for Friday done. Now I just have to get the con apps and Esys homework due Monday done...and study for the con apps test on Tuesday. This weekend should be tons of fun! As long as I don't slack off and end up doing a buttload of homework all at once cuz I didn't get it done before.

Take care, everybody! Next time I post, I will have been to Texas and back! And to the Riverwalk, hopefully. Peace out!

First of all...

I would read it, Mom! I like hearing about your day. And who else really matters - er, I mean, I would read it!

Second, I have a Caterpillar information session tonight at 5:30 until 7:30. After the Cat reps are done talking, I am going to talk to them and set up a phone interview...because I am going to be gone this Friday when they are interviewing all of the other intern candidates. It's super exciting and at the same time nerve-wracking...because I am horrible on the phone! But I am so happy that they are willing to do this for me.

So I am going to go do homework and get ready for the Cat meeting. Hope everyone had a really super-duper day!

Early to Bed Tonight

My day starts early tomorrow. I may even fit in a - gasp - jog in the morning. Don't get too optimistic, but it sounds good right now before I have to wake up and do it. I haven't had a nice peaceful jog to myself in a while...since summer, I believe. Also, I miss (whoa, hold on to your hats, folks) the really early morning feel. I hate being awake that early because I am still soooo tired, but the early morning and watching the sunrise is something I miss from working this summer. Granted, it will be a bit cooler this time of year than it was last month, but I can just layer if need be.

Hopefully, I will get up, jog, eat breakfast, shower, go to the AM service at Maryland, then spend the rest of the day doing the homework I most definitely didn't do today or yesterday. There's the game plan. Whether or not I go through with it will be another story. Gotta stop writing and start sleeping! Adios, all.

Homecoming

Last night was pretty cool. I was here for the first time ever for a Rose homecoming! We went to a pep rally at 8:30 PM. Coach got up to introduce our senior. We cheered really loudly! All of the sports teams did the same...our football coach was hilarious and bashed fast trackers, hahaha. The pep band was really good this year, which was fun. The drummers rocked! Then we found out who won the frat/sorority banners and had the cheerleaders (actually pretty good this year) and dance squad perform. The dancers...ahahahahaha...had this little Asian guy on the team (that's right, a guy on the dance team) that waas ohso flamboyantly gay. He did all the hip stuff and walked out like he was on a runway. There was a lot of...interesting discussion about him. The homecoming queen was voted for...Danna Sheridan, my SA from last year, won! Yay, I voted for her.

Then there were the fireworks! So cool, it was like the 4th of July again. At the end, they put off a ton of red, white, and blue fireworks, then set off like fifteen "cannons", which I had never seen before...basically big fireballs that make a huge noise! The finale also included abou tten of my favorite fireworks, the ones that don't really have pretty sparks and stuff, but just make really loud bangs.

Then followed the bonfire, a tradition at Rose. It is about 2 and a half stories tall; there is a no-fly zone over Rose during our homecoming because the heat from the fire can mess with the airplane's instruments. Another Rose tradition is the outhouse placed on top of the bonfire. If it falls through the middle of the woodpile, we will win the football game. If it falls off the side, then we will lose. Well, this year, the outhouse burned up and kinda disintegrated before doing either. So I don't really know what that means. The fire was, I hear, not as impressive or hot as it usually is, but I had never seen it before so it was cool. You see, the freshmen had lots of difficulties this year; the base of the fire ended up being made up of treated wood, so that's no good. But I still liked it!

Our volleyball games...well, we won the first match and lost the second. Neither of them were good games for me. I am so sick of working so hard and still being so far behind everyone else. I don't want to look like a fool out there and I certainly don't want to bring down the team. Why can't anything come easily?

So I will probably spend the rest of the day doing homework...woohoo...and/or perusing the homecoming tents and crowds. See you all later, take care!
